Hoist Motor Repair and Installation

Problem: A customer's hoist motor became damaged because of contaminants in the air. It reached a point where it needed to be replaced urgently. The motor, which had an integral brake, weighed 1,800 pounds and was located 56 feet above the ground.

Solution: We had planned the replacement to ensure that the customer could continue to use another crane to minimize production impacts. We only had to stop production for a total of less than 2 hours during the work. The runway had to be shut down for this period of time due to the limited access area for equipment to reach the crane in question, and to mitigate any safety issues while our equipment was in the path of the cranes. We had coordinated with maintenance, electricians, production supervisors, and floor personnel to ensure that everyone understood what was happening and when.

End Result: When completed, the new hoist motor was running smoothly. The customer was able to move a process back into this area, and in was very happy.
