I-Beam Jib Cranes

Gorbel I-Beam Jib Cranes — also known as Performance I-Beam Jibs — are the original heavy-duty jib crane in the Gorbel product line, built on structural wide-flange I-beam construction for demanding, high-productivity lifting applications. Available in four mounting configurations — free standing, wall bracket, wall cantilever, and mast type — these jibs cover capacities from 1/4 ton to 5 tons with standard spans from 8 to 20 feet (wall bracket models available to 30 feet). Motorized rotation with Variable Frequency Drive control is available across all four configurations, and a full range of accessories including air and electric swivels, festoon systems, and rotation stops can be specified at the time of order or added later.

Free Standing I-Beam Jib Cranes

Floor-mounted and self-supporting, free standing I-beam jib cranes are Gorbel's most versatile Performance Jib configuration. They can be positioned in open floor areas, staged underneath bridge cranes to extend coverage, or used in machining and assembly cells where multiple jibs can overlap for staged operation. Outdoor installations such as loading docks are also common. Three base mounting styles are available: baseplate mounted (FS300), insert mounted (FS350), and insert sleeve mounted (FS350S) for applications where the jib needs to be removable.

Specifications

  • Capacity: 1/4 ton to 5 tons
  • Standard Spans: 8 to 20 feet
  • Rotation: Up to 360°
  • Beam Type: Structural I-beam (wide flange)
  • Foundation: Anchor bolt baseplate; insert and sleeve insert options available

Accessories and Options

  • Motorized Rotation: Standardized powered rotation kits available; VFD standard on all motorized models for single, two, or three-speed control
  • Retrofit Motorized Rotation: Retrofit traction drive kit fits all free standing jibs with box-style head assemblies regardless of original manufacturer — available for indoor applications up to 5 ton with spans to 20 feet
  • Air/Electric Swivels and Slip Ring Collectors: Top or bottom entry; enables continuous 360° rotation with powered lifting devices
  • Air and Electric Festoon Systems: Cable and hose management along the boom
  • Festoon Trolleys: Four-wheel trolleys with pivoting saddle support for flat cable, air hose, or round cable
  • Taglines: For load control and positioning
  • Rotation Stops: Limit boom rotation to protect equipment, machines, or building structures

Wall Bracket I-Beam Jib Cranes

The wall bracket I-beam jib crane is the most economical heavy-duty configuration in the Performance Jib line. It mounts directly to a structurally adequate wall or column using a single tie-rod suspension — no floor foundation required. Wall bracket jibs are well-suited for individual use in bays, along plant walls or columns, or as a supplement to an overhead crane or monorail system. Two requirements must be met before specifying this configuration: a structurally adequate wall or column must exist, and sufficient clearance must be available above the boom throughout its arc to accommodate the tie rod.

Specifications

  • Capacity: 1/2 ton to 5 tons
  • Standard Spans: 8 to 30 feet
  • Rotation: Up to 200°
  • Beam Type: Structural I-beam (wide flange)
  • Foundation: None required — mounts to existing wall or column

Accessories and Options

  • Motorized Rotation (200°): Custom powered rotation kit available; VFD standard for adjustable speed control
  • Air/Electric Swivels and Slip Ring Collectors: Top or bottom entry for use with powered lifting devices
  • Air and Electric Festoon Systems: Cable and hose management along the boom
  • Festoon Trolleys: For flat cable, air hose, or round cable
  • Taglines: For load positioning
  • Rotation Stops: Field adjustable to limit boom arc
  • Fitting Kits: Available for local fabrication of wall bracket cranes

Wall Cantilever I-Beam Jib Cranes

The wall cantilever I-beam jib crane is the ideal choice for applications where maximizing hook height is the priority. The cantilevered design eliminates the tie rod found on wall bracket models, allowing the boom to be installed very close to the underside of the lowest ceiling obstruction for maximum hoist lift. Like the wall bracket, it mounts to an existing wall or column with no floor foundation required. Two requirements apply: a structurally adequate wall or column must exist, and sufficient clearance must be available above the boom throughout its arc of rotation.

Specifications

  • Capacity: 1/4 ton to 5 tons
  • Standard Spans: 8 to 20 feet
  • Rotation: Up to 200°
  • Beam Type: Structural I-beam (wide flange)
  • Foundation: None required — mounts to existing wall or column

Accessories and Options

  • Motorized Rotation (200°): Custom powered rotation kit available; VFD standard for adjustable speed, acceleration, and deceleration control
  • Air/Electric Swivels and Slip Ring Collectors: Top or bottom entry for use with powered lifting devices
  • Air and Electric Festoon Systems: Cable and hose management along the boom
  • Festoon Trolleys: For flat cable, air hose, or round cable
  • Taglines: For load positioning
  • Rotation Stops: Field adjustable to limit boom arc
  • Fitting Kits: Available for local fabrication of wall cantilever cranes

Mast Type I-Beam Jib Cranes

Mast type I-beam jib cranes are floor supported and top stabilized, offering full 360° rotation while exerting less force on the supporting structure than any other Gorbel Performance Jib configuration. Because the mast is braced at the top rather than anchored in a floor foundation, this configuration is typically the most cost-effective option for 360° rotation applications. Two styles are available: the MT400 Full Cantilever for maximum headroom, and the MT450 Drop Cantilever for applications where the boom must clear a specific overhead obstruction. Three conditions must be met: an adequate structural support must exist to stabilize the crane at the top of the mast, clearance must be available for the pivot assembly overhead, and clearance must exist for the boom to rotate freely.

Mast type jib cranes are configured to order. Contact Tri-State Overhead Crane to discuss your application requirements.
