Case Study: Turbine Crane Modernization
Our Arkansas branch had been performing monthly inspections on this Whiting 100 Ton Turbine Deck Crane throughout the year as part of our inspection program. This provided numerous opportunities for our team to perform planned repairs and modernizations, so when the time came for a critical lift, as in dealing with these turbines, there were zero issues with the crane.
Some of those repairs included:
- Repairing a brake coil on the bridge.
- Upgrading a 1st generation Magnetek drive to a Magnetek G+ Series 4 drive.
- Installing 45 runs of Duct O Wire conductor bar.
- Installing new collector shoes on the girder for all motions of the crane.
- Installing new master and slave cylinders for the cab-operated hydraulic braking system.
- Installing a new ground bar to the 3-bar main power feed, which will protect the investment of their new VFD and bring the facility up to compliance.
Just before the beginning of their Fall Outage, we took our test stand to the facility to perform an IAW ASME B30.9 2021 Annual Rigging Inspection.
